Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has expressed its intention to establish and operate a television station within the institution.
The disclosure was made by the Rector of YABATECH, Ibraheem Abdul, during a visit by the new Zonal Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Raphael Akpan, to the college in Lagos.
Abdul emphasized that having a television station on campus would significantly enhance the training of students in communication and media skills.
NBC’s support for TV station license
He sought the support of the NBC in obtaining a television station license, highlighting YABATECH’s success in running a radio station without violating the commission’s regulations.
The Rector noted that this development marked a new era for YABATECH Radio, as it embarked on expanding its reach and impact with the backing of NBC Lagos.
He expressed the college’s commitment to maintaining compliance with the commission’s guidelines and supporting initiatives aimed at improving the broadcasting sector.
In response, Akpan praised YABATECH’s accomplishments in the media industry and pledged the NBC’s unwavering support in helping the college obtain its television license.
He acknowledged the college’s significant contributions to the broadcasting sector and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of its licensees.
The proposed television station would provide students with hands-on experience and contribute to the college’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates in the field of communication and media.
