Sixteen individuals who had been kidnapped, including 13 students from the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara, and three construction workers, have been released from captivity.
This development follows a prior rescue operation by the Nigerian army, which had saved six of the abducted university students.
The incident took place last Friday when unidentified gunmen attacked the Sabon-Gida community in Zamfara’s Bungudu Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that approximately 24 students, a majority of whom were female, were abducted by the bandits.
Sabon-Gida village is located near the main campus of the Federal University of Gusau, approximately 20 km from the state capital, Gusau.
According to Nazeer Sabon-Gida, a resident of the village, the bandits stormed the community around 3 a.m. and began firing indiscriminately.
