Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue has announced the establishment of a Safe School Coordination Center aimed at enhancing security within educational institutions in the state.
Speaking during the closing ceremony and launch of the Safe Schools special response team for the north-central region of Nigeria in Makurdi, the governor emphasized the state’s efforts to address security challenges arising from herders-farmers conflicts.
He stressed the need for government and stakeholders to work together to combat gang violence, extremism, abuse, and discrimination to create a conducive learning environment for children.
Benue Governor Vows to Work with Education Ministry
Governor Alia pledged to collaborate with the federal Ministry of Education to ensure the safety of students in various schools across the state, emphasizing the importance of education as a fundamental human right with lifelong benefits.
He called on stakeholders to prioritize safe schools as a means of achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).
